Conservation Architectural Services (RIBA Stages 0-7)

Heritage Architecture has worked alongside project architects Studio Octopi to secure planning permission and listed building consent for alterations to the Tea Pavilion, an art-deco structure, dating from 1930. The intention was to provide facilities within the bay for swimmers and visitors to the bay through the summer months when the pool was open.

In 1996, the site was closed by Aberdeenshire Council, and had deteriorated in condition over the following 25 years. In 2021, The Friends of Tarlair were granted a lease on the pavilion to enable it to be brought back into use.

Following a successful tender, Heritage Architecture were appointed as conservation architect alongside the project architect Studio Octopi. We provided heritage and conservation input to the team, undertaking comprehensive historic research and completing a Heritage Statement which supported the successful planning and listed building consent applications in 2022.

As conservation architects, we undertook a condition survey to develop a RIBA Stage 4 schedule of repairs, as well as developing the details for the restoration of partially lost elements such as the external balustrading.

Our involvement has continued into the construction phases, providing conservation architect services through the development of contractor’s proposals and quality assurance.
